Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of specific areas of political economy, with emphasis on the labour theory of value, the Marxist theory of modes of production and social classess, the theory of economic crises and uneven development.
At the end of the course the student should be able to know:
- Basic concepts of the labour theory of value.
- The Marxist notion of modes of production and social classes.
- Aspects of the Marxian theory of economic crises.
- Issues related to international economic competition and development inequality at the international level.
- Heterodox theoretical approaches to Foreign Direct Investment.
Course Contents
- Basic concepts of the labour theory of value.
- Theory of modes of production and social classes.
- Capitalist Mode of Production and theory of economic crises.
- Intra- and inter-sectoral competition (terms of trade) and value appropriation in the sphere of circulation.
- Issues of economic development: the concept of “extraverted” development.
- Theory of Foreign Direct Investment.
