Undergraduate

The scope of the Undergraduate Programme, taking into account the constraints, is to provide:

  • A decent general economics curriculum
    • Decent in the sense of conforming with generally accepted standards of respectable education in Europe and North America
    • Decent in the sense of being satisfactory, adequate and sufficient to our students and fair and ample to the staff
  • Service other departments of the university, especially in Engineering and Positive Sciences

The department provides a four-year single-subject degree programme in Economics, firmly grounded in economic theory (micro and macro), quantitative methods (maths and econometrics) and applied economics subjects.

The Goals and Objectives of the Undergraduate Curriculum are:

  • A sound coverage of all core economics subjects divided into three groups:
    • Foundation (introductory economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics)
    • Reading and writing skills (mathematics, statistics, econometrics, operational research)
    • Core economics (public economics, development economics, industrial organization, labour economics, economic policy, economics of the firm, international trade, history of economic thought)
  • A fair coverage of contemporary economics and associated subjects and quantitative skills:
    • Contemporary subjects (economics of technology and innovation, economics of human capital, economics of education, environmental economics, rural economics, economic geography, and many others)
    • Associated subjects (accounting, management)
    • Quantitative skills (applied econometrics, data analysis, advanced statistics)

In June 2019 our undergraduate program of study in Economics has been accredited by the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (HQA) as being fully compliant to the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015).
