Analysis of internal migration in Greece and its impact on education and labor market
Έτος έναρξης: 2018
From the early 1990s, Greece faces a strong migration flow consisting of various age groups with different demographic profiles. The aim of the study is to capture the characteristics and the parameters of the internal migration phenomenon from the recording of the overall mobility performed by the sampling persons at prefecture level. For this purpose, we examine/study specific indicators of demographic and labor factors that affect the formulation of this issue. Emphasis is given in investigating the human characteristics, behaviors and skills of people who have made residential changes over the last 50 years. An interesting question that often arises is whether there is a measure of effectiveness between the long-term mobility of human resources and the educational performance of individuals. The study’s scope is to investigate whether there is investment or not in human capital and how exactly this relationship is depicted in the Greek labor market. Our data derive from the years 1971-2011 and we have selected 5 specific years as benchmarks. The main characteristic of the research is that it is executed in two ways; firstly, based on the changes detected in every previous year of the referred benchmarks and secondly based on the changes detected in every 5-year period respectively. In that way, we examine how the rapidly evolving social context and the changing determinants affect the education-migration relationship over time, providing a more contemporary perspective on this issue.
