The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the factors and mechanisms that govern digital currencies and determine their presence in the economic landscape of currencies and foreign exchange market. In this context, cryptocurrencies are studied from the point of view of economic science, in order to evaluate the aspects of these digital currencies that concern their use and its impact. For this purpose, an attempt is made to identify the factors that have an impact on the volume of transactions, on the characteristics of the network of cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin case) and on the formation of their exchange rate.
